About the event

Sunday Evening Conversations with Rev. Dr. Tom Evans

Dates: March 9, 16, 23, 30, April 6, April 13

Topic: “Questions of Faith”

We all have spiritual questions—about the purpose of our lives or "what it all means." This Lenten season, join Rev. Evans for a series of conversations exploring different aspects of faith and how it speaks to our deepest questions. We will gather following the Sunday evening service, beginning March 9.

Everyone is welcome, regardless of background or beliefs.

March 9 – Faith: What is it? How do we come to believe?

Everyone has faith in something, but like a fish that doesn’t know it’s wet, we often don’t recognize the nature of our own faith. Explore the many facets of faith to gain a deeper understanding of your own beliefs and a greater appreciation of other people's beliefs.

March 16 – Faith and Evil: If God is all-powerful and all-good, why is there evil and suffering?

The existence of evil is a troubling reality for those who choose faith. We will explore different perspectives on this age-old question, its implications for free will, and how we can combat the presence of evil in our own lives and the world.

March 23 – Faith and Science: Are faith and science in conflict?

While faith and science have sometimes been at odds, they have also complemented each other throughout history. We will examine how faith in God inspired scientific discovery, while also considering moments when rigid faith traditions were challenged by scientific insights.

March 30 – Faith and Society: What role does religion play in an increasingly secular world?

As people of faith, we respect the freedom of personal conviction, yet religious expression is increasingly challenged in public life. While some parts of the world are becoming more secular, others are experiencing religious growth like never before. Together, we’ll wrestle with the nuances of faith’s role in society today.

April 6 – Faith and Doubt: How does doubt lead to faith?

Doubt may seem like an obstacle to faith, but it can actually be a pathway to deeper trust and hope. By facing life’s struggles and uncertainties, we can develop a more profound and resilient faith.

April 13 – Faith and Other Religions: What does Christianity say about other religions?

The Christian response to other faiths is complex, but Scripture makes clear that God’s message is one of love, grace, and forgiveness. In a diverse world, it is essential to engage in thoughtful dialogue about different faith traditions while also sharing our own beliefs with respect and understanding.
